Chapter 15 page 367 gives amazing summary chart (note exceptions though) Political life: involves govt, politics, ways of preventing/resolving troubles and disputes both within and outside of society. Ex: police force, court and penal system in complex society like ours. Using informal/formal political mechanisms, complex societies establish social order and deal with social disorder at least. Political life focuses on territorial groups: range from small communities (bands, villages) large communities (towns, cities) multi-local groups (districts/regions) entire names, or even groups of nations. Societies in ethno. records vary in level of political integration - that is, the largest territorial group on whose behalf political activities are organized and in the degree to which political authority is centralized/concentrated in the integrated group. Small communities: traditionally largest territorial group where political activities were organized; no centralization no political authority. Other societies: traditionally organized political activities by multi-local group, but no permanent authority at the top.
