AUPSY101 Chapter 2: Psych Ch. 2
Document Summary
Develop measurement techniques that make it possible to describe behaviour clearly and precisely. Hypothesis, a tentative statement about the relationship between variable. Help solve everyday problems, and exert more control over them. Theory - interrelated beliefs used to explain a set of observations, description of behaviours to understanding, must be testable. The scientific approach offers two main advantages: clarity and precision, relative intolerance of error. Research methods consist of various approaches to the observation, measurement, manipulation, and control of variables in empirical studies. Independant variable is a condition or event that an experimenter varies in order to see its impact on another variable. Dependant variable is the variable that is thought to be affected by manipulation of the independent variable. The experimental group consists of the subjects who receive some special treatment in regard to the independant variable. The control group consists of similar subjects who do not receive the special treatment given to the experimental group.
