Speed of reaction
Reactant/ product concentrations
Spontaneous/ non-spontaneous
kinetics, which deals with the speed of a reaction and its mechanism, the stepwise changes that reactants
undergo in their conversion to products.
equilibrium, the dynamic balance between forward and reverse reactions and how external influences alter
reactant and product concentrations.
Chemical kinetics  study of rxn rates as a function of time
Rxn concentrations decrease in rxns with a high rate and slowly in a low rate;
Speeds  explosions are much faster than ripening/ rusting;
Catalysts increase speed
Each rxn has its own characteristic speed;
Concentration  MOLECULAR COLLISION; rxn rate proportional to rate of rxns; ^
concentration = ^ collision = ^ rate
States molecules must mix; gasses, aqueous, or liquid; more finely broken down, easier for rxn
to occur (greater surface area/ volume ratio)… wood chips vs logs
Temperature  molecules collide with E to react; higher temperature, more reactions;
raising temperature increases number and energy of reactions;
Reaction rate  changes in concentration of reactants or products per unit time; reactant
concentrations decrease while product concentrations increase;
Change in concentration/ change in time
Can be measured as product formation/ reactant loss;
Instantaneous rate; gives us a specific value (tangent to curve)
Average gives us a change over time; (slope of graph)
Initial Rate; instantaneous rate the moment the react/ product are mixed; USE INITIAL RATE TO
MEASURE PARAMETERS;
Rate  when reactants LOWER and products increase higher;
