Chapter 4: all nursing is cultural and contextual. Context: structures and living processes that shape and are shaped by people"s lives; multiple dynamic interacting historical, economic, sociopolitical, physical, linguistic structures and processes shape ppl"s health experiences and nursing. Ex) icu. physical place with tech, certain layouts, etc. context (not thought relationally) is a container, a room. Relationally, context we can see icu shapes ppl, their experiences, their interactions. Icu has specific language, level of urgency, resources, etc compared to other places. It is shaping and being shaped by others. When you are able to analyze the interplay among contexts . Consciously paying attention to the interplay v/s your own assumptions, values, beliefs, and the contexts of your practice, can make better decisions. When you attend to the interplay bw ppl and contexts of health, you can better understand and respond to differences among ppl. You can intervene at contextual level; ex.
