- Meal time:
oSchedule regular meals and snacks, feed healthy snacks between balanced meals
oAlways offer at least one food that the child enjoys eating
oOffer healthy food in a relaxed manner, and children will eat what they need
oDon’t be concerned about short food jags
oTeach and reinforce good table manners
oEncourage child to sit up and eat slowly to avoid choking
- Other than sleeping, children watch more TV than anything else
- Choking occurs more commonly when food is consumed while reclining or running
- Progression towards atherosclerosis begins in childhood, “fatty streaks” start to form in
blood vessels
- Baraphobia: underfeeding of children by parents who are concerned about the child
becoming obese or developing cardiovascular disease
