The battle of the schools begins: structuralism vs. functionalism. Structuralism and functionalism were psychology"s first two major schools of thought. Heritable traits that provide a survival or reproductive advantage are more likely than alternative traits to be passed on to subsequent generations. Sigmund freud (1856 1939) became one of the most controversial intellectual figures of all time.
