Goddard: used intelligence tests on immigrants from ellis island and determined that jews, Also used it on certain american families. Intelligence tests have been used to justify prejudice against people of different race, religion or nationalities. Original use was to help underprivileged children in school. France had many educational reforms and it made primary education available to children from all social classes. Since the groups were so diverse, they needed a way to find out which children needed remedial education (those who lagged behind their peers) Binet/simon: created a test based on solving problems, remembering words, copying pictures etc. (30 total tasks) Tried to measure natural intelligence (aptitude for learning independent of the child"s education)
