Self-esteem: re ects how we feel about ourselves or how satis ed we are without self-concept (whom we believe to be). the emotional component of the self. it is seen as continuum with both positive and negative spectrum. Self-esteem provides us with feedback about two important human needs: The need to belong we humans are social creatures, and belonging to a social group helps us survive and thrive. There"s di erent sets, just like in a car. Positive regard (what carl rogers called positive feedback) there"s two types: Unconditional positive regard: similar to unconditional love. it involves separating the behaviour from the person. Example: if a boy throws a temper tantrum, some parents might put him in his room, tell him he is a bad boy , and follow by giving him the silent treatment and disapproving looks.
