Needs to go beyond mere opinion- offer an argument and defend position by drawing upon reasons to support view. Drawing upon personal experience is considered a weak defence. State position on an issue and provide defence in terms of what is fair or right, in the best interest of society or of the people affected by the policy or action. Strong papers make a small point but are well developed. Avoid making grand statements, they are difficult to defend and often weaken overall argument. Keep in mind the purpose for writing a philosophy paper. Draw upon readings and key ideas, that you can critically engage with the issue. Chapter 1: what are the values and aims of education? (p. 4-22) Question whether education should make us happy and more autonomous (independent) The main purpose of education is to acquire knowledge of academic disciplines of university such as math, science and literature.
