The accumulation zone is above the equilibrium line and is where more snow/ice is gained in winter than lost in summer. Ablation zone is below the equilibrium line and is where more snow and ice is lost in the summer than added in the winter. On the equilibrium line, the snow/ice added is exactly equal to the lost amount. The snowline is the point above which snow and ice covers the ground throughout the year. Relation between net budget and motion of glacier toe. Positive budget means that the glacier toe will advance. Negative balance (like today), means that the ice will retreat and thing. Fresh snow is a recent snow deposit in which the original form of the ice crystals can be recognized with a density of about 50kg/m3. Firn is compressed fresh snow, it is rounded, well bonded and older than one year (survived one summer) and has a density ranging from 400 kg/m3 to 800 kg/m3.
