KNES 372 Chapter Notes - Chapter Rugby: Physical Therapy, First Aid, Leading Edge
Document Summary
Limb injuries: muscle/ligament sprains (ligaments binding 2 bones are stretched) and strains (tears) are very common. Abc assessment: first aid treatment is based on protecting the injured area, limiting movement and helping to reduce swelling. Swelling/pain are common after injuries and present a cycle ( swelling = Pain = swelling: for treating most soft tissue injuries, we follow the price mnemonic, protect removal from field, splint/brace, etc. Rest using sling or support bandage, preventing worsening, etc. Ice ideally a bag of half ice and half water, apply for 20 minutes, remove for 2 hours, repeat. Compression opposes swelling, can be done with a bandage. Elevation can use a sling or a stool, keep flow away from injury: treatment depends on severity of symptoms. Use dr abc and price until better help arrives: muscle injuries = dr abc, ice and compress, depends on severity, review by doctor same day if its very serious.
