Document Summary

Brain: command center: cerebrum brain weight gives you most of your human characteristics. Largest and most prominent part of the brain. Many ridges and groves on the surface make it look wrinkled with some being deeper then others. The deepest is in the center front to back this is the longitudinal ssure and separates the cerebrum into two hemispheres. The two hemispheres process information in different ways and are specialized for slightly different mental functions. Thin outer layer of each hemisphere is called the cerebral cortex which consists of billions of neurological cells, nerve cell bodies and unmyelinated axons(grey matter). It is highly folded and this triples the surface area of the cortex. Beneath the cortex is white matter which is white because it consists mostly of myelinated axons. This increases the rate of conduction and are found on axons that conduct over long distances.
