The integumentary system protects internal organs from dying out, from bacteria, from damaging effects of heat, sunlight and a number of chemical substances. Nerve cells are highly irritable and can communicate rapidly with each other through elec impulses- the nervous system bears most responsibility however all cells are irritable to s extent.
