The preference aspect means values have to do with what we consider good and bad, they signal how we should and should not behave and they are very general. People tend to hold values structured around achievement, power, conformity and autonomy. Generational differences in values traditionalists are described as hardworking, loyal and detail oriented, they prefer leadership as fair, consistent, clear and respectful. Baby boomers (44% of work force) are dedicated, experienced and knowledgeable and the leadership style they prefer is to be treated as equals. Generation x (34%) is independent and adaptable, willing to challenge status quo, the leadership they prefer is direct and result oriented. Millennial (14% and increasing) are optimistic and technically competent, socially responsible, leadership they prefer is motivational, collaborative and organized. Cultural differences in values: work itself is valued differently across cultures.
