EDRD 3120 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Lifelong Learning, Hanns Eisler, Lifeworld
Document Summary
Adult education and the human journey: an evolutionary. With the emergence of the concept of lifelong learning people are increasingly turning to adult education as a way to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. Within this context the field of adult education, as both an area of inquiry and practice, faces two pressing challenges. The first is to help people understand and develop meaningful ways of being-in-the-world that respect the environmental limits of the planet. Furthermore, educators need to help people recognize that environmental degradation is intertwined with social problems and in order to meet this first challenge there is a need to address the many social problems we experience locally and globally. The second challenge adult education must meet is to learn to live with diversity. Globalization is forcing people to "live" with others who see the world differently.
