Fetus: week 9- sex organs (see in ultrasound, age of viability: 22 weeks. Fetal brain signals release of hormone oxytocin, preparing the fetus to come out. Birth related issues: c section, easier to schedule, quicker but more expensive. Increased complications: epidural: needle to spine to alleviate the pain, less readiness for the infant to suck. Shift fro traditional roles to co-parenting: employment, caregiving, playing, chores. Postpartum depression (ppd: ~ half of mothers are expected to experience physical problems. Involvement in pregnancy, birth, care helps develop a strong bond with the infant: kangaroo care, skin to skin contact. Infant sleeps on your chest (warmth, heartbeat, contact)
