A problem exists when a certain amount of people in society believe that a behaviour is undesirable. Public has competing interests over issues and those that want to have society stay the same are often referred to as having vested interests. Special interest groups are those that oppose the view of society and have certain aspects of it that they want to change such as gay rights, disabled children. Some of these groups work together towards a common interest. Over time, society can change their views on whether something is a problem or not (eg. homosexuality was not always accepted) Attempts to represent the process of how family responds to problems. A" is the stressor (ie. being arrested, alcoholism, illness), b" is the families resources to help handle the problem (ie. money to spare, connections and expertise). C" is the family"s interpretation of the problem, another factor that affects how the family responds.
