Document Summary
Evolutionary theory gender differences in mating strategies for reproductive success. Men are able to father many many, many children and so their genes will be passed down (many short-term mates). Male promiscuity and female selectively are evolutionary traits. Males are attracted to females who appear fertile and capable of childbearing (young, healthy, large breasts, wide hips) while females look for men who possess resources needed for child-rearing. Psychoanalytic theory biologically-based sex drives must be channeled through appropriate outlets. Human behaviour results in the clashing of inner forces (conscious vs unconscious mind). Psychosexual development poses that children"s development is based on erotic interest (oral, anal, phallic, latency, genital stages). Children subconsciously develop erotic attraction to the parent of the opposite sex during phallic stage (oedipus/electra complex). Learning theories cultural beliefs shape a child"s ideas about sex. (ex. Masturbation is considered wrong in some cultures so a child may eventually associate sexual stimulation with guilt and shame. )
