Consider newborn to be a neonate for the first 6 weeks of life. Newborns are vulnerable in lots of ways but they are probably more resilient than you might imagine. Vulnerable: susceptible to physical or emotional injury, especially at an early age. Babies are not always wash and dried then handed to the parents. The vernix white waxy stuff covering the baby, may be left to dry and is likely to flake off. Vernix: a protective creamy white waxy substance that covers some of the skin of the newborn baby. Infants head is oddly shaped due to birthing process. Baby"s skin and hair colour might differ from their parents.
