Anecdotal records, field notes, logs: brief descriptive summaries or notes of their observations in any situation, can often be subjective statements about events. Accompanying information must be included to clarify the nature of the setting and activities. Provide us with a minute-by-minute account of ongoing behaviours and help us understand where a child is developmentally, the strategies the child uses and the in uences of the actions of others around them. Give insight into the context in which the behaviour occurred. Problems: requirement of intense concentration, only can occur for short periods of time, impossibility of recording all of the subjects behaviours. Checklists: listings of behaviours that are marked as bring present or absent, other behaviours are ignored.
