Document Summary

Chapter 13: understanding information systems and communication technology. Sorry if it"s not up to your standards, but it"s by me: brian jones, sup. The goal of information management is to organize the firm"s information. This requires the use of information managers which are the managers responsible for the activities needed to generate, analyze, and disseminate information that a company needs to make good decisions. Managers receive large amounts of data (raw facts and figures) and process it into information (meaningful, useful interpretation of data). This can be done by an organized method known as an information system which can be used for decision making. The 4 different groups of information systems are: top, middle, and first-line managers and knowledge workers. Top being long-range planning for the whole organization, being summaries and analyses for intermediate/long-range planning for different departments, first-line being information for day-to-day tasks, and knowledge workers for special information on technical projects.
