Jazz encouraged dancing: by 1920"s split amongst jazz musicians, those who played for audiences(big bands, less improvisation) and those who played for the sake of playing jazz. Swings triple pop legacy: after swing, bebop was not its only successor, r&b, mainstream pop vocals, latin jazz were more listener friendly. 1940s offshoot of swing called jump was popularized by louis jordan race music, which countered experimental, led to r&b blues played at fast tempo, brash vocals, ensemble riffs.
