The diversity of canada raises questions about how to accommodate different cultures, values, etc. and how to deal with the problems/injustices that different groups have to experience. Many provincial governments have emphasized real or perceived unfair treatment of their province at the hands of the national government. An even more active approach than what canada already has is adopting policies to ensure diversity in different jobs and political positions. The values and interests of a group of people can lay the foundation for the policies and laws of their community. We cannot assume that governments, even in a democratic country, will necessarily act in the public interest. Those in governing positions may be more preoccupied with staying in power or rewarding themselves than doing what best serves the country/people: may act in ways designed to discredit the opposition, dupe the public, etc.
