15. 3: anxiety, depresive, and obsessive- compulsive disorders: anxiety disorders- category of disorders involving in fear or nervousness that is excessive, irrational, and maladaptive. Most diagnosed disorder affecting 1 in 8 canadians. Often occurring with depressive disorders or ocd. Generalized anxiety disorder (gad)- frequent elevated levels of anxiety, generally from normal challenges and stress everyday life. Many experience symptoms such as difficulties sleeping or breathing, difficulties concentrating because of intrusive thoughts. Difficult to identify specific reasons that make them anxious, and that makes it very difficult to deal with the anxiety itself. People with gad have unstable, irritable moods, cannot concentrate had have difficulties sleeping. Panic disorder- an anxiety disorder marked by occasional episodes of sudden, very intense fear. Different from gad because the anxiety occurs in short segments, but can increase in severity. Panic attacks include brief moments of extreme anxiety that could include a rush of physical activity paired with frightening thoughts.
