There are 4 assumptions of a 1-way anova: independent random sampling: the assumption that subjects in the study/condition are representative of the population in question. Significance testing compares the variance of the samples means to the variance of sample means in random sampling, if the population means and variance are the same. F= expected variance of sample means if the population was the same.
