PSYC 2310 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Harold Kelley, Dispositional Attribution, Fundamental Attribution Error
Document Summary
Known as the father of attribution theory, he suggest that people practice na ve psychology as they use casual theories to understand their world and other people"s behavior. He bases his idea on three principles: Third, when people make causal attributions, they make a distinction between internal and external causes of behavior. They developed a theory explain why people make the attributions they do. They came up with the correspondent inference theory- the theory that people infer whether a person"s behaviour is caused by the person"s internal disposition by looking at various factors related to the person"s action. It"s based on their observation that people often believe that a person"s disposition corresponds to his or her behaviour. To make an attribution, jones and davis believe that people are likely to look at the effects of a person"s behavior. An alternative theory of attribution was developed by harold kelley (1967).
