Height and weight changes are not steady. Growth is very rapid during the irst year, steady unil elementary school and then rapid again in early adolescence. Ater this spurt, growth slows again unil adulthood. Head and trunk grower faster than legs why babies have disproporionate heads. Virtually all the body"s muscle ibres are present at birth. During childhood, they become longer and thicker as the individual ibres fuse together accelerates in adolescence, paricularly in boys. Layer of fat appears under the skin near the end of the fetal period, and accumates during birth. During preschool years, children become leaner but in early elementary, acquire more fat again. Bones form during prenatal development starts as carilage and then turns into bone during the embryonic period.
