Some of the information is then transferred into long-term memory, a much larger and more permanent storage place. The idea of sensory memory plays a much smaller role in modern theorizing, and so modern discussions do not mention this type of memory. Long term memory in contrast, is the vast repository that contains all of your knowledge and all of your beliefs. Most of which you happen to not be thinking about at the moment.
