Pharmacology: the scientific study of actions of drugs and there effects on a living organism. Drug action: refers to the specific molecular changes produced by a drug when it binds it its receptor. These molecular changes lead to more widespread alterations in physiological of psychological functions, which we consider drug effects. Therapeutic effects meaning that the drug- receptor interaction produces desired physical or behavioral changes. All other effects produced are referred to as side effects. Specific drug effects, defined as those based on the physical and biochemical interactions of a drug with a target site in a living tissue. Non- specific drug effects are those that are based not on the chemical activity of a drug- receptor interaction, but on certain unique characteristics of the individual e. g. placebo. Double- blind experiment: neither the patient nor the observer knows what treatment the patient as received.
