Interest tests were originally used to place people in appropriate positions during ww1: psychologists then saw how they could be used to help people make better educational and career plans. Construction of the sii: compared the responses of a specific occupational criterion group to a people-in- general group. Basic interest scales: were designed to provide specific information about the likes and dislikes of the respondent, occupational scales. Were designed to provide information about the degree of similarity between the examinees interests and those of selected occupational criterion groups. May not reflect and occupationally relevant preference. Sex bias: there is are separate scales for males and females due to difference in gender opportunities and interests overall. As age increases the stability of the test increases. As the interval between testing increases the reliability decreases. A number of factors can affect the validity, but overall it has been found to have a positive impact on peoples career exploration.
