In order to address eaing disorders therapists must use a scieniic approach to assess individuals. 3 prong mixed eiology: eaing disorders are oten a result of behavioural, physiological and developmental factors. Other factors that may afect the child"s ability to desire food: medical or physical disorders, developmental delays, caregiver-child interacive problems, caregiver competence, and societal problems including poverty and food scarcity. Eaing problems is the most frequent reason for families to go to physicians/pediatricians. Types of feeding problems (that keep a child from processing through those stages) are oten ideniied in the irst 2-3 years of life and include: Failure to master feeding skills consistent to the child"s developmental level. **failure to thrive: children who have subopimal weight gain followed by a deceleraion in linear growth. Describes a state where a child is undernourished due to a decline in caloric intake. Children who are undernourished have problems with cogniive development and emoional regulaion.
