In 2003 scientists concluded that genetic factors along with environmental factors were strong predictors of adult crime and violence. Most psychologists think that personality is shaped by social experience, therefore making deviance a result of unsuccessful socialization. People become deviant as other define them that way. Both norms and the way in which people define rule breaking involve social power. Responding to serious deviance brings people together.
