SOC 1100 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Pearson Education, Igloo
Document Summary
The inuit culture is situated in one of the coldest parts of the world, the artic. This is the biggest factor that makes inuit culture so different from our own. They are faced with many more challenges and complications due to their physical environment that brings their community to come together to grow and live as a single unit in order to survive the harsh conditions. Essentially, an eskimo"s fight for life is a human trait as human beings depend on culture as a means for survival and to feel included (ref. textbook p. 60). One perspective amplified in the film is how the eskimos use natural resources to survive. Unlike our culture, we are used to using man-made tools to create the things we desire. However in the artic, there are no resources as such to do so, in addition, the consequences of man-made tools and appliances go against the beliefs of the inuit people.
