FMLY 1010 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Puzzle Video Game, Object Permanence, Operant Conditioning
Document Summary
Sensorimotor stage: first stage of development, in which infants use information from their senses and motor actions to learn about the world. Object permanence: understanding that objects continue to exist when they can"t be seen. Primary circular reactions: simple repetitive actions in sub stage 2 of sensorimotor stage, actions are organized around the baby"s body. Secondary circular reactions: actions are oriented around the external objects. Tertiary circular reactions: deliberate experimentation with variations of previous actions. Use of built in schemes (sucking, looking), limited imitation, no ability to integrate info from several senses, small steps of accommodation. Further accommodation (grasping, listening), coordinating schemes (look in direction of sound), not yet link body actions to results outside the body. Becomes aware of events outside body, makes them happen again (trial and error learning), beginning of object concept and some imitation. Intentional means-end behavior: goes after what baby wants, transfer of info from one sense to another, imitation of novel behavior occurs.
