Made up of different elements: culture, social class, status, roles, and social institutions. Is the symbols, values, norms, and material objects that societies create. Is what makes a social structure come alive. Social class: refers to a group of people with similar access to power, wealth, and prestige. Importance of social class varies, depending on the society. 30% of the population can be considered the working class. Members of this class are often the swing voters in elections. It not only differentiates people, it ranks them. Social class can effect health, happiness, and life span. Social status: socially defined positions that are characterized by certain expectations, rights, and duties. As a student getting on the bus, you would not expect to drive the bus.
