Document Summary

Microevolution - short-term evolutionary changes that occur within a species over relatively short periods of geological time. Biological species concept - a reproductive community of populations, reproductively isolated from others, that occupies a speci c niche in nature. Phylogenetic species concept - identi es species on a set of unique features that distinguish them from other related species. Species are divided into separate populations (*pops) Gene pool - all the genes in the bodies of all members of a species. Gene frequency - the frequency of occurrence of a gene within the gene pool. Population genetics - an analysis that statistically measures the short-term evolutionary change in pops. Polymorphous - alleles that come in different forms. Pops differ because they posses different parts of alleles. Private polymorphisms are found in some members but not all. This indicates that biologically and genetically, race in the human species does not exist.
