Adaptation is a trait that allows an individual to leave more than offspring than it would if it lacked the trait. It increases the fitness of the individual relative to individuals that do not possess the trait. Arise by selection, may be aided/hindered by drift. Oxpeckers are looking for an easy meal of ticks, and a safe place to eat, hosts are happy for a free cleaning. Relationship, oxpeckers are tryin to be shooed away by the ox. Oxpeckers are annoying, looking for dead skin, open wounds, etc. Experiment done = divided a small herd of cattle into 2 groups, one with oxpeckers one without. Did it for a month, then switched it 3 times and shuffled the cattle. Experiments show that there is no effect of ticks with this experiment. However, for open wounds, weeks found that ox with open wounds who were exposed to oxpeckers had many more open wounds than those protected from the birds.
