Chapters 2 & 3 how business use is. Business process: a collection of linked tasks that end in delivery a product or service. Every business is a collection of business functions which is a collection of business processes. For example, sales & marketing is a business function, they identify customers and sell the product which are business processes. Is fit by enhancing bp through automation! increase efficiency: enable new processes, enforce policy and regulations, be sure to understand the bp before trying to automate. Business intelligence: collect data, extract information for decision making, derive intelligence data information knowledge. Finance & accounting track any business transaction involving money: product cash flows, status reports, and maintain general ledger. Human resources track payroll and timesheet data: produce and derive info from performance records or compensation analysis. Data driven: access and manipulation of internal data and sometimes external data (for situational analysis) Document driven: retrieves and manipulates unstructured external info from variety of sources.
