Document Summary

Why is unemployment a problem: unemployed individuals are idle resources (missing out on potential production and income) Unemployment results in: lost incomes and production, knowledge depreciation (the longer you don"t use what you know, the more likely you will forget it) (lost human capital) Statistics canada conducts a monthly labour force survey to determine the status of the canadian labour force. The working-age population is divided into 2 groups: people in the labor force, people not in the labour force. Labour force is the sum of employed and unemployed workers. The employed are either full-time or part-time workers. Part-time workers are either voluntary or involuntary part-time workers. Is the percentage of the labour force that is unemployed. Labor force= number of people employed + number of people unemployed. Is the percentage of people in the labor force who work part time but want full time jobs. (number if involuntary part time workers)/(labor force) x 100.
