To hold leaders accountable, they must face the public often in the form of elections. House members are chosen every two years. Presidents may only serve for two terms (8 years) There is a xed schedule for elections. Democratic yet not as much gets done because of cials are preoccupied with campaigning and being elected/reelected. Usa elects all of its public representatives. People without experience can run but rarely win. Three phases of presidential campaigns: nomination process. Each party choses its contender: party conventions. Take place in the summer of election year: general election. The date on the presidential calendar when multiple states hold primaries and caucuses. The candidate who wins the majority of votes in a state gets all of that states electoral college votes. The selecting of a winner by the majority. Primaries help to select a parties candidate. They then begin campaigning and trying to paint the opposition in a negative light.
