Document Summary

Memory persistence of learning over time through the storage and retrieval of info. Measures of retention recall, recognition, relearning are all ways to measure the retention of memories tests of recognition and of time spent relearning demonstrate that we remember more than we recall recalling is more difficult. 3-stage model of memory-forming record to-be-remembered info as a fleeting sensory memory. Sensory memory immediate, very brief recording of sensory info in the memory system: process info into short-term memory where it is encoded via rehearsal. Short-term memory activated memory that holds a few items briefly before the info is stored or forgotten info moves into the long-term memory for later retrieval. Long-term memory relatively permanent/limitless storehouse of the memory system; includes knowledge, skills, and experiences this model has been updated to include working memory and automatic processing. Working memory: working memory focuses on conscious, active processing of incoming auditory and visual-spatial info, and of info retrieved from long-term memory.
