Criminology is the study of crime and criminal behaviour. Rates of crime have been steadily decreasing, despite this many americans continue to list crime and fear of crime as one of their most serious concerns. Average citizens fear of crime also heightened by highly publicized crimes of a few individuals that evoke images of an epidemic of random violence beyond the control of a civilized society. The media provides extensive coverage of heinous crimes, which contributes to a heightened state of public fear, crime coverage sells. Frequency of crime among young people, juveniles responsible for about 24% of violent crime. Based on small sample of cases, a few common characteristics have been identi ed in the backgrounds of the boys responsible for school killings. These boys tend to have had more than the usual experience with rearms, showing a persistent fascination with guns, felt isolated/rejected/tormented by classmates, particularly dif cult for them to relate comfortably to girls.
