Sensory transduction where sensory stimuli are transduced into slow graded receptor potentials. There are important differences between rods and cones. Cones are the most acute and make up the fovea. Rods however are most sensitive to light and are therefore less acute. Photoreceptors: rods and cones have an inner and outer segment (closest to retina) Inner: the inner segment houses the nucleus and a cilium connects the two layers, outer, contains hundreds of lamellae (thin plates of membrane) Dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus cell bodies within lgn of thalamus that gets input from retina and sends to primary visual cortex.
