Overview: social challenges (difficulties interrelating with others, in making and keeping friends, and in meeting the social demands of everyday life, emotional challenges (feelings about oneself, behavioral challenges (problems manifested by aggressive, antisocial, and similar behavior) Social challenges: social skills (consists of skills that are necessary to meet the basic social demands of everyday life) If pressured, tend to do antisocial behaviors: social difficulties (some do quite well in academic domains, while others have both social and academic difficulties) Not all students with learning disabilities encounter difficulties with social skills. May lack sensitivity to others, have poor perception of social situations, and suffer social rejection. Internalizing reaction (conscious refusal to learn, resistance to pressure, clinging to dependency, quick discouragement, fear of success, sadness, withdrawal into private world) Externalizing reaction (overt hostility, acting-out behaviors, excessive anger, fighting with other children, and defiance toward teachers)
