Intellectual disability (id) is a neurodevelopmental disorder; a group of conditions with onset in the developmental period that produce impairments of social, personal, academic or occupational functioning. Id characterized by significant limitations in mental abilities. Such as: reasoning, planning, and judgement that result in impairments in adaptive functioning such as conceptual, social, and practical skills needed to fulfill aspects of everyday life. Three essential elements defining condition of id have remained same for past 50 years: Intellectual limitations: deficits in adaptive skills, early onset. Organic disease - caused by a physical or physiological change to some tissue or organ of the body. Familial disease - a condition that tends to occur more often in family members than is expected by chance alone; a familial disease may be genetic (such as cystic fibrosis) or environmental (such as chicken pox)
