Evolution is a process resulting in heritable changes in a population over many generations. The problems we solve today differ from our ancestors, evolutionary psychology considers how we think/feel/act reflective of our evolutionary history. Proximate questions involve how and ultimate questions involve why , both required for the scientific method. Charles darwin connected all life on earth to each other and to the planet itself. Species adaptation is due to variation in our environmental conditions: natural selection means survival (and thus reproduction) of the fittest. Sexual selection refers to how males and females choose a mate causing competition between the sexes and the most attractive characteristics to be passed down. Contribution of other scientists : george romanes proposed a similarity in intellectual reasoning between humans and other species. Lloyd morgan"s canon (against darwin and romanes) we should not ascribe animal actions to a higher mental state if it could not be explained by lower mental processes.
