1. Some scholars, myself included, would go further, maintaining that not only is communication
socially constituted but society is communicatively constituted, produced and reproduced by
communicative acts.
2. Expressive forms of culture, forms of art, play, display, and performance, offer an especially
productive vantage point on culture, society, and communication.
-can heighten the experience, open up contemplation and engagement

-oral can be subordinate to written, and can be vice versa (i.e priests read off of scripture, and oral stories
are regarded as “magicor miracles)
-the importance of traditions is dependant on literate, non literate and illiterate ind.
-tradition: in/direct intergenerational communication, used more for oral (named standardized oral forms)
-Genres change dependant on the tradition
