Transfer or understanding of a message between 2+ people. The steps between the sender and the receiver creating a transfer and understanding of a meaning. Encoding - encode the thought into a message. Formal - channels established by an organization to transmit related messages. Informal - spontaneously created channels and come from responses to individual choice. Noise - communication barriers that distort the message (information overload, perception and cultural differences) Feedback - to see if understanding has been achieved. Undue tension or anxiety about oral or written communication. Amount of information that can be transmitted during a communication episode. Multiple cues at the same time (body language, facial expression, Senders manipulation of information so receiver thinks it is more favourable. Telling the boss what you think he wants to hear or giving bad news. Receivers selectively see and hear based on their needs, motivations, experience, background and characteristics. Can also project their interests and expectation into the decoding process.
