Theory y: positive, suggests employees like work, are creative, seek responsibility and exercise self-direction and self- control. Motivation is result of interaction of individual and situation. Intrinsic motivators: person"s internal desire to do something, due to interest/challenge/personal satisfaction: happens when people genuinely care about work, energized. Extrinsic motivators: motivation that comes from outside person includes pay, bonuses, other tangible rewards. Theory x suggests people more extrinsically motivated opposite for theory y. Theories of motivation fall into 2 categories: needs theories and process theories. Needs theories: types of needs that must be met to motivate individuals.
