Mother"s experience of pregnancy is divided into 3 trimesters: 1st trimester (0-12 wks), 2nd trimester (13-24 wks), 3rd trimester (25- 38 wks) 2nd trimester: 12 weeks after lmp to 24 weeks after lmp. 3rd trimester: 25 weeks after lmp to beginning of labour. Cervix: narrow, lower portion of uterus which extends into the vagina. Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (nvp): known as morning sickness- feelings of nausea, often accompanied by vomiting; usually occur in the morning but can be at any time of day. Ectopic pregnancy: zygote implants in one of the fallopian tubes instead of in the uterus. Gestational diabetes: diabetes that happens only during pregnancy. Colostrum: a substance secreted by the breasts in preparation for nursing. Toxemia of pregnancy: life-threatening condition, signalled by a sudden increase in bp and can cause the pregnant woman to have a stroke.
